2010

All meetings to be held at the Denton Community Center. All programs are at the Denton Community Center unless otherwise noted. There is always a SHORT business meeting preceding the programs. Please consult this site periodically for any changes. 

DCHS meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday in the Denton Community Center, 7115 Lancaster Avenue, Denton, NE

All programs are open to the public. A snack is served to all who attend.

DCHS PROGRAMS FOR 2010
UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED WILL BE HELD AT THE DENTON COMMUNITY CENTER

  • Feb 23--1pm Social hour with short meeting and presentation at 2 pm by Anna Smith of Emerald who will speak on the Mayes Cemetery and general Emerald history.

  • March 2--1 pm Social hour with a tour of the Catholic seminary east of Denton at 1:45 followed by a presentation by Ernest Rousek who is a board member of the Wachiska Audubon Society. He will speak on the Nebraska City/ Kearney Trail and about Cheese Creek.

  • April 27--1 pm Social hour with a presentation at 2 pm by Elaine Thayer speaking about the National Farmers Organization (NFO). Elaine and her husband Kenneth were members of this organization.

  • May 25--6 pm Social hour with a 7 pm presentation by Jerry Penry who is a Lancaster County engineer and a licensed surveyor and a historian. His topic will be about airplane disasters in Nebraska through the years.

  • June 22—No social hour. Meet at 7 pm at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Denton for a grave witching demonstration by Kenneth Sherwood. No meeting at the Community Center.

  • July 27—6 pm Social hour with presentation by Franklin Mills who is part of the COINERY in the Piedmont shops. His presentation at 7 pm will involve numerous aspects of coins.

  • Aug 24—6 pm Social hour with Dwaine Fosler of Milford presenting his research on the Milford Industrial Home at 7 pm. This home was originally set up as a home for unwed mothers.

  • Sept 28--pm Social hour with a presentation by Richard Schell who will tell us about his Mother Anna Oltjenbruns Schell. She was noted for her poetry and for her love of flowers. Dick will read some of her poems.

  • Oct 26—To be announced later

  • Nov 30—Pot luck dinner at the Community Center at 12 noon followed by a social time.
