Lincoln Daily News, Thursday, Aug 5, 1897: Around Rokeby While Miss Sue Van Ness and Miss Cornie Chittendon were driving home from Rokeby one day last week their team became frightened and ran away, scattering the occupants of the carriage promiscuously along the road. Both ladies sustained severe injuries; those of Miss Chittendon being the more serious, it having been necessary to call in a physician. Both of the victims are doing nicely now and it is thought will be around in a few days. Pastor Doane, of the Congregational church, has returned from his vacation and last Sunday resumed his work in Rokeby. A.F. Steinhausen is suffering from an inflamed eye, the result of being struck by a sliver of iron. A physician removed the piece, but the optic is still very painful. J.F. Hay and J.D. Sipe broke their records by scooping for the sheller in Rokeby. ------------- Copyright © 2008 Susan Reddish Curelop for DCHS All rights reserved
