Lincoln State Journal, Sunday, February 26, 1922: Photograph of Mr. & Mrs. A.W. Reddish with caption "Celebrate Fifty-fifth Anniversary." Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Reddish celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary last Monday at their home, 1814 Sewell street. In a few days time they will also be able to celebrate the fifty-second anniversary of their coming to Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Reddish reached Nebraska in March 1870, from New York state, where they had lived previously. They came thru Lincoln by stage and homesteaded ten miles southwest of the embryo town, on land that is now farmed by their two sons, O.D. and C.V. Reddish. At that time the closest railway line terminated at Ashland, and it was necessary to make the remainder of the journey overland by stage. Lincoln was more than a post office and a few small buildings. Yankee Hill held more promise for the future than what is now the capital. Mr. Reddish is seventy-nine years old and his wife, seventy-seven. ----- Copyright © 2008 Susan Reddish Curelop for DCHS All rights reserved
