Lincoln Evening News, Monday, July 13, 1891: Yankee Hill Items Corn is "laid by" and farmers rejoice. Mr. E.H. Bowers is on the sick list. Mr. Ludwig Ott_inten is going to Tennessee next fall. How lonesome it is when all the school marms are away. School meetings are over and peace and quiet now reigns supreme. Mr. John Seidell has been hired to teach the winter school at Plety Hill. Mrs. A.E. Bowers starts soon for Indiana to visit her mother who has been very ill. Wheat is ready for harvest and those possessing a field of the same are feeling proud of it. Mrs. E.H. Bowers expects soon to take a trip to Indiana to visit friends and improve her health. Most of the farmers of these parts "celebrated" the Fourth in a corn field, but a few of the more patriotic spent the day at Lincoln Park. Rev. Jas. Worley gave a very interesting lecture at Prospect Hill on the 28th of June, about China. The house was crowded and a large collection was taken as usual.
