The Sunday State Journal, Sunday, March 16, 1924: headline: W.C.T.U. Groups Active The thirty-fifth anniversary of the Yankee Hill W.C.T.U., was observed at Wesley Chapel Methodist church near Rokeby last Sunday. Yankee Hill W.C.T.U. was organized March 9, 1889, by Mrs. J.D.M. Buckner, whose husband was then pastor of the Roca-Denton charge of the Methodist church, with seven charter members. Of the original charter members, Mrs. Mary Williams, 1130 Saratoga avenue, Lincoln, is the only charter member who retains her membership in the union. Two other charter members are Mrs. Allen Reddish, Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. E.H. Bowers, Brownville, Ore. Following the services at the church, a buffet luncheon was served in the schoolhouse. At the conclusion of the luncheon program was given with Mrs. H.B. Angelo, presiding. Mrs. E. Peterson led the devotional exercises. Mrs. Ella Gray talked on the "History of Yankee Hill Union." Misses Esther and Vesta Rogers played a piano duet; "Effects of Alcohol on the Body," was the subject of a talk given by Rev. Earl Raitt; a song, "Children's Happy Hour," was sung by Rena Angelo and Helen Jones; a reading was given by Miss Alice Olmstead and a son, "Just the Whispered Name of Jesus" was sung by a quartet. Rev. T.S. Dunn spoke on "Community Environment Thirty-five Years Ago Today." A reading was given by Miss Daisy Thompson. A violin solo by Samuel Alstadt(?), assisted by Miss Lillian Burgess; a talk, "Shall We Carry On?" by Mrs. Allie Jackson. The Misses Edith and Estella Kern sang a duet.
