Lincoln Evening News, Thursday, October 15, 1896: headline: AROUND ROKEBY Howard Johnson is rustling around after a farm for next spring. He says he "ain't going to batch, either." Jas. Tewksbury is making extensive preparations to gather his corn crop this fall. Rev. Doane did not show up last Sunday. A.W. Reddish and wife left on the 1:40 train last Sunday for Ashland, to attend a family reunion there. C.W. Katlin (can't read this name) has had a magnificent "special sized" wagon box made in which to gather corn during the long cold days, which he feels sure will follow the 3rd of November. William Kennedy, grocer, stationer postmaster, etc., of Rokeby, is bringing his new barn slowly to a finish. He anticipates having it ready for occupation by the time snow flies. Chas. Mitchel is building a large corn crib and grainery combined. Mr. Brady mourns the loss of his fine driving horse. The Barry sisters have returned to their old home, and henceforth will abide under the protection of the paternal roof. Jas. McGowan mourns the loss of his pet horse "Fritz." A.F.
