The Lincoln Star, Saturday, Sept 30, 1922: NEWS FROM LINCOLN'S NEIGHBORS -ROKEBY- John H. Shamer, formerly of this vicinity, is in a hospital suffering from blood poison. Mrs. P.E. Stevens has as a guest this week, her sister, Miss Jennie Meadville of Nebraska City. Mr. and Mrs. E. Peterson and family, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Miller and daughter Edith, and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Peterson and family, have returned from a motor trip through Kansas. Good roads and fair weather helped to make a very enjoyable trip. E.F. Steinhausen is completing a $1,000 poultry house to accommodate a flock of 600 pure-bred chickens. The ladies social circle of Wesley chapel met at the home of Mrs. E.M. Smith, Wednesday afternoon. About twenty were present. Plans were completed for the bazaar and social to be held at Rokeby hall, Friday evening, October 6. The ladies will serve ice cream, cake, sandwiches, pickles and coffee. The remainder of the afternoon was spent socially after which delicious refreshments were served. R.H. Steinhausen shipped a load of hogs to South Omaha, Tuesday. Wheat sowing is in progress with the farmers of this community. Stack threshing is finished and a few farmers are husking corn. Prof. H.J. Gramlich shipped a load of hogs to South Omaha, Tuesday. Miss Edith Kern and her party have returned from a trip abroad. Many places of interest were visited. Miss Kern also witnessed the Passion Play. -DENTON- Mrs. Charles N. Johnson of Fremont was the guest of I.N. Meyers and family Saturday. Mrs. C. Blodgett will leave Friday evening for Alliance, Neb., to visit her husband. E. Peshek left Wednesday for Cleveland, O., to visit his mother and other relatives. Mr. Eme(?), manager of the Farmers' elevator, has moved his family from Davey. Mr. and Mrs. Stendt of Crete and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Devoe of Lincoln spent Sunday at the I.N. Meyers home. The Friendship Kensington met with Miss Mary Sullivan Tuesday. Three new members were taken in. I.N. Meyers, Frank Hockings and Homer Davis left Wednesday for a ten days' hunting and fishing trip in the western part of the state. Mr. and Mrs. William Voss, Mrs. Frank Hockings and Mrs. Smith spent a few days in Omaha this week. Little Leonard Winland and Mrs. R.H. Hudson of Lincoln spent Thursday with Mrs. Hudson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.M. Kauffman. -EMERALD- Mr. and Mrs. Fred Borgmann motored to Cortland, Neb., last Sunday to visit friends and relatives. William Thate who helped E. Lipps during harvest, and his cousin, Rudolph Heil who visited with August Weirhart(?) and family the past week returned to their home in Norborne, Mo., Wednesday. Mrs. Buhmann of Mt. Vednon(?), N.D., spent a few days this week with Mr. and Mrs. O. Delnert and family. The Mission festival which was held by he Rev. George Gersib's congregation last Sunday, was attended by a large crowd in the morning, afternoon and evening. The collection totalled over $200. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Leo entertained Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Schnell and family at dinner Sunday. Miss Minnie Seick who spent two weeks visiting with Miss Ella Pape at Orleans, Neb., and her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sieck at Kearney, returned home last Saturday. Mrs. C. Arnsmeier left for York Sunday evening to visit with her daughter, Mrs. Amanda Shingle and family. The Rev. George Gersib and wife left for Newport, Mo., Friday, where Rev. Gersch will deliver a sermon for a mission festival Sunday. A large crowd of friends and relatives were present at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Busboom last Tuesday evening, the occasion being their birthday. A nice luncheon was served a late hour and every one present enjoyed the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Adam Lipps are the happy parents of a baby girl born on Wednesday, Sept. 27. -SPRAGUE- Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sherwood and little son were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Nannen and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Krull and family were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Anthelm Sunday. Frank Spellman has had a new furnace installed in his home. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Staats, sr., of Lincoln visited Sunday with Mrs. Emily Staats and family. Mrs. S. Wunderlick, Mrs. Henry Freye, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Egger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kamaska, and Mrs. Henry Whittmann were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Egger Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hoppe and family were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Werger/Wenger?. The high school has organized two girls basket ball teams. Esther Arman is captain of the first team and Lola Witstruck is captain of the second team. Wilbur Hoppe is captain of the boys team. Miss Effie Harrison was in town Wednesday evening calling on friends. Several farmers around here have bought new tractors to do their fall plowing with. Clay Poland who has been quite sick the past week is some better. Mr. ad Mrs. Al Kunz and son Elmer visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bargman Sunday. John Gesselman's house is nearly finished. He has been remodeling and building on some extra rooms. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Lamb entertained the following guests at Sunday dinner: Mr. and Mrs. L. Wilmann, Mr. and Mrs. John Kurtz, and the Misses 'Alma Willman, Lenore Pruer, Kate Engelbrecht, and Vernal Lamb, in honor of Mrs. Lamb's sisters Mrs. Phoebe Pike, of Kansas and Mrs. Etta Adams of Des Moines, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Al Kunz and son Elmer visited at Henry Bargman's Sunday. The church basement is being repaired. The work is progressing nicely. Sunday school convention district No. 6 was held in Martell church last Thursday. A very good program was given. Mr. and Mrs. Snapper Garrison of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. O.P. Cox, Georgie and Nellie Cox, Mrs. Mary Cox, Mr. and Mrs. J.S.
